Photo Friday!

As previously mentioned, I got a new camera. So, this week, I bring you photos of randomness.

a picture of a couple taking a picture (at Bi-Rite Creamery, SF)

I liked these shoes that these guys were wearing, especially the yellow ones.

this helicopter was flying over Dolores park while I was there

Photo Friday!

After watching the play/musical Sweeny Todd, we decided to make meat pie for dinner! This one included ground lamb, carrots, mushrooms, and fresh corn and a homemade crust. It was good that night, and even better for lunch the next day.

We tasted some Sake at Corkage (in San Francisco). We also ate their fried chicken, duck pate (not shown), oysters, and other yummy stuff. We bought a bottle of our favorite that night, and now we just need a recipe (or two) to eat with it. Anyone have any ideas?

This biscotti recipe was found on David Lebovitz‘s blog recently. I like the texture the cornmeal adds to the biscotti. (More on that later! I know I’ve been saying that a lot, but I really mean sooner rather than later this time!)

And that wraps up another Photo Friday! series. I bought a new camera so I am really looking forward to showing the results in next week’s post!

Photo Friday!

The past week has been filled with:

  1. A free San Francisco Symphony concert in Dolores park:
  2. Using this recipe for what I am re-naming “Muddy Cupcakes”:

and, yes, I will, eventually tell you more about those.

3. I am dreaming about making these, since I still have a lot of coffee to use up.

4. We made these blueberry-corn muffins; I found the recipe on Two Peas And Their Pod:

5. and if you are new around here, you might not already know that I am a part of foodie pen pals. This month, I received this:

Photo Friday!

This week has been interesting, to say the least. Photo-wise, it involved a lot, including: this view. (From Bernal Heights, San Francisco)

These murals; on alleyways off of Mission Street, San Francisco:

We also noticed these flowers:

and made this focaccia:

What did you do this week? What are your weekend plans? Let me know in the comments!

Photo Friday!

Okay, y’all, (did I just say “y’all”? Who am I?) I missed last week’s Photo Friday (and this week’s What I’m Reading Wednesday), so these pictures are actually from last week. I’m a terrible blogger, I know. Anyway, here’s what happened: there was a birthday barbeque and dinner that I photographed the food from. Here are the highlights (in no particular order):

The tart I decorated: cherries, figs, and apricots, all from the farmer’s market.

The tart Mike decorated with blueberries, strawberries, and figs from the farmer’s market. This one also had black pepper in the pastry cream (the other one was vanilla) but I am not sure you tasted it.

Ceviche at State Bird Provisions. This is where we had dinner. More on that later. This was a highlight for us because it was the first time any of us had this dish. It was, well, meaty and the bread was nice and buttery.

State Bird Provisions menu. Just an idea of what they served there that night. In addition to the menu items, they bring around trays or carts of food, dim sum style (or so I am told; I have not been to a dim sum restaurant, but now I need to go) and you pick what you want.

Did you know that quail is the California state bird? Neither did we. This was as crunchy and tasty as it looks, which is to say, very.

Tomatoes at the farmer’s market. These we bought and used in the food at the barbeque.

So that’s the highlights food-wise last week. Again, sorry I am such a terrible blogger and can’t even keep up with weekly posts. I will try to get back on track for next week.

Photo Friday!

Since I missed this past Wednesday’s What I’m Reading, I am going to add that to the end of this week’s Photo Friday! post. I’ll be back on track next week; sorry!

So, I am getting better at remembering to take pictures; however, I am bad at remembering to take my camera with me everywhere, so I had to take all photos with my phone this week. Therefore, you’ll have to bear with my unedited, poor quality pictures this week.

First up, a blurry picture from trivia on Tuesday night. If you live in SF and want to join our team, we are scouting for members, especially those that know sports and pop culture/movie/music trivia. :)

I was going to take more than one picture of that night, but got caught up in the game and drinking (duh!) and forgot!

So, the next few pics are all from last night, at the Underground Market at Public Works. (Should I really be sharing this in a public space?!)

First thing I ate all night: Biscuit Bender’s with their cheddar gravy. YUM!

The picture really does not do it justice. These were mighty biscuits! They also have sweet options and American Eatery (part of Prather Ranch Meat Co.) in the Ferry Building uses their biscuits for breakfast items on their menu.

Next, a photo of the band Izzy Wise, who rocked out last night. The girl was playing the clarinet and the guy, Izzy, was playing a few different (and strange) instruments.

Next up, the truffles I bought from Casa De Chocolates in Berkeley. They are dark chocolate with cocoa powder. Sweet and delicious, but a bit messy from the cocoa powder.

The view from above…they are making mac n’ cheese from Homeroom and cheese plates from Mission Cheese. Mmm….cheese!

The next photo is my view of the crowd last night from my spot upstairs. It was totally packed! Lines for food were bending around corners and up stairs! Crazy!

And…that’s all for the photos of this week! Now, for What I’m Reading!

  1. Blog posts about cookies: peanut butter drizzled chewy milk chocolate chunk, & coconut oatmeal chocolate chip, to be exact.
  2. Recipes with blueberries: lemon blueberry poppy-seed muffins and a grain-free blueberry tart.
  3. A poem about Boysenberry and Plum Cobbler
  4. and, to round it all out, because pies are round (worst pun ever!): Chocolate Espresso Ganache Pie

Photo Friday!

Okay, so I have learned that I definitely need to take more photos, since, this week, I have exactly 3 photos to share. Since two of them are related to this month’s Foodie Pen Pal, I will have a separate post about that at the reveal day on the 30th. The other, with the popovers, I will tell you about tomorrow. So stayed tuned!

Brownie batter. Good on its own. BUT this time I added something special. Again, you are just going to have to come back and read more about them on the Foodie Pen Pal post for this month.

A peek into the box I received from my Foodie Pen Pal this month. I’ve already said (showed) too much.

I kind of really love this picture of me taking a shot of the popovers in the oven. It seems artsy. Or something. Anyway, more on those popovers soon.

Some other highlights from my week I could have taken pictures of:

  1. I got my haircut. I am trying to grow it out some, so it was just a trim and some layers added.
  2. I’ve been biking a lot lately. There’s this one hill on my way to work that I have yet to master. One day. Also, I love biking through Golden Gate Park. So pretty and peaceful.
  3. Trivia night at Elixir in the Mission. We came in fourth place by one point. But still, fun night.
  4. Wednesday was the summer solstice, which means it was the longest amount of daylight. I bet there would have been a picture in there somewhere.

Maybe next time I will remember to get my camera out and snap away. Have a great week!
